[Swatch] Catrice - Makes Me Smile (NeoNaturals Limited Edition)

Hey guys!

First off, don't forget to check out my bloggiversary giveaway! And now on to the polish goodness :)

Today we have another polish that I wouldn't necessarily describe as typical for me. It's somewhere between brown-ish and golden; the color seems really hard to describe, so let's rather have a look at it!

Yet again I'm not sure how many coats I applied, but I believe it was only one, plus top coat. I remember that it covered very well. Again, this isn't really totally my type of color, but it's nicer than I thought.

How would you describe this color? Brown? Gold? Silver?

[Swatch] Max Factor - Emerald

Hey guys!

I don't wear a lot of green polish, but I do own quite a few. This one is definitely a gem to me. The name even fits that perception perfectly ;) Also, I heard that Pantone declared emerald the color of the year 2013.

I can't quite remember how many coats this was, but there is top coat. I'm thinking three, I believe I struggled a bit with the brush - it's hard for me to work with small brushes and tiny handles. But the outcome makes up for the struggle! I love the shimmer and wish it were more visible in the picture. It's gorgeous! "Emerald" actually reminds me of Illamasqua's "Viridian". Maybe those two will go up against each other in a Clash of the Polishes at a later point.

What's your favorite green polish?

[Swatch & Review] essie new standard range polishes all tied up, bobbing for baubles and cocktail bling

Hey guys!

A little while back, essie announced that five shades (damsel in a dress, capri, jag u are, midnight cami, over the edge) would leave the standard range and be replaced by five new colors (carry on, all tied up, play date, bobbing for baubles, cocktail bling). I was really excited about the news since I'd been eyeing bobbing for baubles and cocktail bling for a while already. Now let's look at some swatches, shall we?

all tied up

Two coats with top coat. I'm really really disappointed that the beautiful golden shimmer is not visible on the nails! It disappears into the base never to be seen again. You can make a bit of if out if you squint, but that's not enough for me - I want it to be as obvious as it is in the bottle in the second picture!

bobbing for baubles

Two coats with top coat. If you use a thick first coat, that should be enough. This is so dark that it can look almost black, but not quite. I feel like it has strong dark grey tones in it, which I guess make it that almost-but-not-quite-black.

cocktail bling

Two coats with top coat. Another quite special blend of blue and grey, this time in a very light version. Definitely my favorite.

Do you own any of these? Will you miss the shades that leave or are you happy they're gone?

[Swatch & Review] essence trend edition Vintage District nail polishes Shopping @ Portobello Road, Antique Pink and Get Arty

Hey guys!

Today we're checking out another one of essence's trend editions, Vintage District. Once again, I got three of four polishes. Lately, there seems to be a a recurring pattern of me liking 3/4 of a collection. Anyway, let's see those colors!

Shopping @ Portobello Road

Two coats with top coat. I can't quite decide on what I should call this hue. Would it be weird if I said this is a blue-toned petrol color?

Antique Pink

Two coats with top coat. I wouldn't necessarily call this pink; to me, it's more like a muted, grey-ish red. It looks a bit too brown in the photo, it's definitely more rose-colored, more on the red side.

Get Arty

Two coats with top coat. I wish the pink and golden-orange-y shimmer was more prominent. See that close-up shot? That's what I wanna see when I look at my nails! I have enough plain grey cremes already, gimme that shimmer!

Would you say these colors fit the vintage theme?

[Swatch & Review] P2 Snow Kissed! Limited Edition nail polishes frosted mint, wintry blue and frozen lavender

Hey guys!

Another snow-/winter-themed LE, this time from P2. Again, I have three of a total of four lacquers to show you. So here we go!

frosted mint

Two coats with top coat. This has very fine silver shimmer, where, I guess, the frosted effect comes from. It really does look very "cold" in a way. I like it more than I thought I would!

wintry blue

Two coats with top coat. I feel this one (and the fourth polish which I didn't pick up) are a bit like the odd ones out. They don't really fit the "cold"/frosted theme in my opinion. It's still a nice, if quite common, color, though.

frozen lavender

Two coats with top coat. This one also has very fine silver shimmer. It's less noticeable than in "frosted mint", thus making this less "cold".

I have to say I really like the bottles. But I heard P2 released a similar collection in 2011 that had that exact same packaging, so thumbs down for the uncreative reuse.

What do you think of these? Any favorites?

[Swatch & Review] essence trend edition Snow Jam nail polishes goofy-blue, life is a freeride and top of the ice-stream

Hey guys!

I figured since we are drowning in snow right now this would be the perfect opportunity to show you three of the four polishes in one of essence's current trend editions.

Two coats with top coat. It's once again one of those polishes that have more of a bigger-sized glitter in them. That gives the polish a slightly weird texture, but not at all complicated to handle.

life is a freeride

Two coats with top coat. I really like the shimmer in this. It's a bit darker in reality than in the picture, a little greener. I might need to compare this to Catrice's "San Francisco".

top of the ice-stream

Two coats with top coat. This has to be my favorite of the trio. Unfortunately you can't see it in the photo, but the shimmer in this changes color from blue to pink and back depending on at what angle the light hits it. It's so nice! Also, I think slightly transparent polishes like this somehow always make your nails look so much more classy (and white).

There was a fourth, plummy polish that I didn't pick up, I just didn't like the color... those kinds of tones just aren't really for me.

Which of these is your favorite?

[Swatch] Catrice - Be Naturally Crazy (over wet n wild - Blue Moon; NeoNaturals Limited Edition)

Hey guys!

A few days I showed you the gorgeous "Blue Moon" by wet n wild and it just happened to seem like the perfect base color to put this polish over. Let's see the outcome!

One coat of "Be Naturally Crazy" over "Blue Moon", with top coat. The base is really white and I wish it weren't quite so strongly pigmented because it makes "Blue Moon" look weirdly milky in the shade. It still looks quite nice, though. Maybe try this out with a lighter base color (pastel blue or pastel green, for example) so the milkiness isn't quite as striking. I haven't tried this out on its own yet; it might look interesting.

What do you think of this combo? Would you try "Be Naturally Crazy" out without a base color underneath?

[Clash of the Polishes] NYX - Super Funk vs Kleancolor - Born To The Purple

Hey guys!

I don't quite recall where I got the idea to make these two go up against each other, but well. Here we are, so let's get right into it!

Pointer and ring finger: NYX - Super Funk; middle and pinky finger: Kleancolor - Born To The Purple

I think it's obvious enough that these are not dupes. With Born To The Purple you have a sort of "instant jelly sandwich" since the base is tinted. Furthermore, Super Funk has medium size hexagonal glitter that Born To The Purple doesn't have. The large and small size glitters are the pretty much the same, though.

A thing worth noting that I forgot to mention in my last post that included a Kleancolor polish is that these stink to high heaven. All polish smells chemical and kind of bad, but Kleancolor takes the cake. These smell like a health hazard (or should I say: like the health hazard that they probably are?). Anyway, just be aware of that.

Which one of these would you rather pick?

[Swatch] wet n wild - Blue Moon

Hey guys!

Here we have a gem that I picked up end shortly before Christmas. There's only one place near here that carries wet n wild products and I rarely get the chance to go there. Enough of the whining now, though, let's get a good look at that beauty!

Two coats with top coat. Look at the shimmer! Isn't it amazing? You don't really have to be very careful when applying this, just make sure you pull the brush along your nail in a straight line. Ah, I love it. Without the sunlight you can still see the shimmer, although of course it's not as evident. It's more like you're seeing it through blue glass. Which I think is a really pretty effect, by the way.

What's your top must-have wet n wild polish?

[Swatch] Catrice Cosmetics - The Calm Call (Siberian Call Limited Edition)

Hey guys!

Yes, yet another polish from that limited edition; sorry about that. This one is far less unappealing *cough*ugly*cough* than the last one, though. See for yourself!

Two coats with top coat. I don't know when it became a thing to put big sparkly pieces of one color in polish, but I'm not too big of a fan of it. Here, however, it somehow works. Thinking about it, this polish is kind of "manly", maybe? It makes me think of oil with metal flakes in it, lol. Yep, I have weird associations.

I promise there aren't any more Siberian Call polishes coming. Are you relieved?

What do you think about that kind of sparkly polish? The other one like this that I have is i'm bluetiful by essence, for which this concept doesn't work well at all in my opinion.

[Swatch] Kiko - Pearly Dark Ruby

Hey guys!

This is the one non-holographic polish that I picked up at the Kiko store. It just looked too pretty to pass up!

Two coats with top coat. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS. Yes, the caps are necessary. Do you see the shimmer? It looks ten times better in person. So beautiful. The base color is awesome as well. Another polish that makes me look a bit pale, but I'm distracted by the awesomeness enough not to notice too much.

What do you think - are you as head over heels as I am?

[Swatch & Review] Catrice Cosmetics - Rest In The Forest (Siberian Call Limited Edition)

Hey guys!

Here's another shimmery polish from Catrice's Siberian Call LE. This one is definitely a complete miss for me, I have to tell you...

One coat by itself on pointer and ring finger, one coat over essence - Hazelnut Cream Pie on middle and pinky finger; no top coat. In the bottle this looked like a shimmery polish that was intended to be used by itself, but boy was I ever wrong to assume that. Its base is slightly brown-tinted, but not opaque at all. It seems very strange to me in general. Absolutely not a fan of this, but well. It might look better over a dark brown, but I don't think I own any...

What do you think of Rest In The Forest? Yay or nay?

[Swatch & Review] Catrice Cosmetics - Sky And Snow (over misslyn - lighthearted; Siberian Call Limited Edition)

Hey guys!

I'm not sure where Catrice got their inspiration for this limited edition; the name is cool and all, but otherwise it's a little "I don't know" and "meh" to me. But well. I think this one's quite the little gem...

One coat over misslyn - lighthearted, with top coat. I really like this. I know it doesn't really look like that when snow is glistening in the sun, but it makes me think of exactly that nevertheless. I don't think this should be used on its own, I feel it would lose its effect.

What's your favorite glitter/shimmer/sparkle polish right now?

Jelly sandwich with Zoya - Paloma and Kleancolor - Chunky Copper

Hey guys!

I hope you're having a good start to the new year :) And yes, you read right, I'm at it again with the jellies! I just can't seem to get enough of them. The combination possibilities are so endless, I can't resist. They're not always a success, but we supposedly learn from our mistakes, right?

As usual with jelly sandwiches, the saturation of your base color is up to you - then I added one coat of Chunky Copper, another coat of Paloma, and top coat. The base in which the glitter pieces of Chunky Copper are suspended has a slight orange hue to it, but it didn't seem to really influence the jelly sandwich's overall coloration. I'd say this isn't as much of a win as other combinations I've tried, but I still sort of like it.

Do you have suggestions for interesting color combinations?

[Clash of the Polishes] Same Brand Showdown: essie - Mint Candy Apple vs where's my chauffeur? vs Turquoise & Caicos

Hey guys!

When I first saw the Leading Lady Collection display I wasn't exactly blown away, quite the opposite. I got "she's pampered" because it is a really nice red, then I got the mini set because I wanted "beyond cozy" and it was sold out everywhere, and yesterday I got "where's my chauffeur?" and "butler please". Talk about being consistent... Anyway, I always thought "where's my chauffeur?" was way too similar to Mint Candy Apple and Turquoise & Caicos, both of which I already owned. So let's see if there is anything to that assumption.

Three coats with top coat on all three. Mint Candy Apple is the lightest of them, and the one I would say is the truest mint color; Turquoise & Caicos is a little darker and greener; where's my chauffeur? is in the middle as far as darkness is concerned, and has more blue tones than the other two.

I was surprised to find that Turquoise & Caicos has somewhat of a jelly-like texture (I believe that's generally called a "crelly"). The other two are "plain" cremes. I needed three coats for a smooth surface because my nails are ridden with ridges; if your nails are smooth, two coats will probably suffice.

I guess I can say that "where's my chauffeur?" is my favorite of the three, though I really like all of them. What's your favorite mint polish?
